Step inside the candle-lit stone hall of the Saruhan Caravanserai for a Mevlevi Sema, the whirling ceremony inspired by the poet Rumi.
As the ney flute sounds and the chant rises, the dervishes turn in their white robes through four selams. The ceremony closes with a serving of şerbet, a traditional Ottoman drink. Guests watch in respectful silence.
It is a genuine Sufi worship ritual, not entertainment. Please stay quiet, avoid clapping and switch phones to silent out of respect.
Photography without flash is usually permitted from your seat, but the dervishes ask for silence and minimal disruption during the whirling.
The ceremony runs about 45–50 minutes, beginning promptly in the early evening.
Admission and seating are included. Hotel pickup and drop-off can be added when you book.
Smart-casual and modest dress is appreciated in this historic religious setting; evenings can be cool, so bring a layer.
